27th Street ROW

A Short History of the 27th St. ROW Green Space & Path

The 27th St. Right-of-Way/ROW was an abandoned collector of derelict cast-off furniture, tires, fencing, and garbage tied together with blackberries and other invasive plants. In 2021 neighbors of this undeveloped road between the north end of 27th St. and Douglas Ave. decided to convert it to a green path for the enjoyment and benefit of the community.

Adjacent neighbors and neighborhood volunteers organized work parties, raised money for 10 large dumpsters to cart away the collected debris, then planted dozens of shrubs and trees to create a green connector trail and place for enjoyment of nature. There’s a picnic table, a bench, a little free library, and coming soon, a sculpture.

Work parties to install more plants, weed, and mulch continue through the seasons. Check the events page for notices of work parties and join us to make the Happy Valley neighborhood a better place to live.
